Every year the women of Gamma Iota put on our philanthropy event, Zeta Linedance. This events consists of our chapter members being split into groups and paired with a group of gentlemen from various Inter Fraternity Council chapters at UF. The goal is to make up a dance of any talent level and put on a show! Teams pick a theme, such as 80s, Cowboys and Cowgirls, or Pirates, and come up with a fun performance. Local judges are present at the event who score each performance and crown a winning team. Zeta Linedance is open to all of the Gainesvillle community, and we work hard year long to fundraise and promote Breast Cancer Awareness and Education.
In 2011, Gamma Iota won the award for Best Panhellenic Philanthropy. In 2012, we worked to include all Panhellenic chapters at UF in our fundraising efforts. In addition to collecting YoPlait Lids, we gave the Panhellenic chapters the opportunity to sponsor a fraternity participating in Linedance.
We are proud to announce that this past year, we raised over $35,000 for our cause. We worked to raise this money through gaining sponsors and from the help of friends, family, and other UF Greek Life members. We worked to raise awareness through making pink breast cancer ribbon pins with our sisters and passing them out around campus to UF students and staff. We are excited for the year to come as we hope to raise even more money and awareness for this cause through pairing with the Think Pink Foundation.
